The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority has confirmed a fatal aircraft accident involving an AS350 helicopter that crashed in Nandi County on Saturday afternoon, with six people reported to have been on board.
In a statement issued on February 28, 2026, the Authority said the helicopter, registration 5Y-DSB, went down at Kabiet Sub-location in the Mosop area of Nandi Hills at about 1630hrs.
According to KCAA, the aircraft was operating a flight from Endebes to Mosoriot when the incident happened. Six people were on board at the time of the crash.
“The accident is reported to have been fatal; however, confirmation of casualties and identities will be communicated by the relevant authorities once the next of kin have been duly informed,” the statement read.
The regulator said it has started the required procedures to support investigations into the circumstances that led to the crash. The inquiry will be conducted by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Department.
“KCAA has initiated the necessary procedures to support the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Department (AAID). Further details will be provided as more verified information becomes available,” the Authority said.
Director General Emile N. Arao also conveyed a message of sympathy to the families and loved ones of those affected by the tragedy.
“The Authority extends its sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of those affected,” he said.
Authorities are expected to provide more details as the investigation progresses and after families of the victims have been formally notified.
